Our Mission:

At Pain and Functional Medicine our goal is to empower our patients with the tools to not only reduce their pain symptoms, but also to heal the underlying causes of pain.  Let us help get you back in the driver's seat!

Most pain clinics treat patient's pain through injections given at the nerve or bone areas of the pain and inflammation.  These injections are usually a combination of two kinds of medicine: an anesthetic, to numb the area for a while, and a steroid. But these numbing medications are just band-aids. They mask the pain, but do nothing to eliminate the reasons for it.

Steroids are inflammation stoppers. Injected steroids are good because they may actually stop the inflammation that is responsible for the vicious cycle of pain.  Injected steroids are bad, however, because over time they cause bones, cartilage, tendons and muscles to thin and weaken and die.  Steroids can also cause or worsen diabetes and cause other whole body diseases. This produces, in the end, worse problems than when your started.

Imagine you had a 30, 40, or 50 year-old tree in your backyard that developed a disease that caused the leaves to turn orange.  What is the proper treatment of that problem?  Would you accept as treatment a can of green spray paint?  Wouldn't you prefer a treatment that corrected a problem in the tree's soil, went up through your tree's root system and allowed the leaves, healed, to turn green naturally?

At Pain and Functional Medicine, we begin by treating your pain. Unfortunately, this is where treatment ends at most "traditional" pain management clinics.

But we're just getting started!  We will help you identify foods and fluids you are consuming, often many times a day, that might be making your pain worse (by actually causing or promoting the inflammation that creates pain).  Also, we will work WITH you to make lifestyle and other dietary changes necessary to treat your pain at its root. And we will assist you with a functional program to increase strength, flexibility and range of motion.

We will help you understand what is causing and contributing to your pain.  You will have all the tools you need for your road to recovery.  You can be back in the driver's seat!
